The woman’s car reportedly overturned after she attempted to avoid hitting the unknown vehicle backing out of the driveway, and hit another car. Challenges Many Victims Face Following Multi-Vehicle Collisions

Multi-vehicle collisions present many challenges for victims in the aftermath. In addition to physical injuries, those involved in a serious accident involving more than one vehicle typically face trauma emotionally after surviving such a life altering experience. These types of crashes require a thorough investigation to determine liability, which is critical to individuals who choose to pursue a personal injury claim for damages from those at fault.

According to Houston car wreck lawyer Amy Witherite of Eberstein Witherite LLP, most people in these circumstances amass a significant amount of financial damages including costs for medical care, property damage, lost income, and pain and suffering.

The CDC estimates that crash related deaths alone in the U.S. result in more than $40 billion in annual medical and work loss costs.

“Motor vehicle crash-related deaths in the United States resulted in an estimated $41 billion in medical and work loss costs in a year, according to state-based estimates released today by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Half of this cost ($20.4 billion) was in 10 states, the report says.”

Texas is one of the top 10 states listed that has the highest per state total of these costs, with an estimated $3.5 billion.

This total does not count the costs associated with the hundreds of thousands of accident injuries that occur each year. Norman Mineta, chairman of Make Roads Safe North America, previously stated of the issue in a press release published by the CDC, “These preventable costs are a reflection of the terrible suffering of American families whose loved ones are killed or injured on the roads.”
